Health & Safety advice for fundraisers
Volunteers who raise money for Child of Hope are encouraged to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to ensure the health and safety of those involved in fundraising.
Those running fundraising events should consider the following:

To prevent accidents and cases of ill health and provide adequate control of health and safety risks arising from activities |
Conduct risk assessments where appropriate (see notes below*). Ensure that hazards are removed/ limited during fundraising activities. Ensure equipment is in good working order e.g. electrical equipment |
To provide/ensure there is adequate training to ensure volunteers/service providers are competent to do carry out activities. |
Ensure professional/qualified people are involved in specialised fundraising activities e.g. exercise fundraiser run by an experienced provider. |
To implement emergency procedures. |
Ensure evacuation procedures/register of attendees are in place in case of fire or other significant incident. Knowledge of first aid procedures/ reporting in a hired hall etc. |
Ensuring appropriate facilities are available |
Ensure that during activities there are toilet facilities, drinking water, correct room temperature and adequate space. |
Ensure food and drink provision complies with regulations as appropriate. |
Ensure that it is safe |
*Notes
Risk assessment suggestions:
1. Look for the hazards.
2. Decide who might be harmed and how.
3. For each hazard, work out the chance of harm being done and decide whether the precautions are good enough.
4. Record what the risk assessment finds, such as the main risks and the what you have done to deal with them.
5. Check your assessment regularly and change it if needed.
