Our girl pupils aged 10-14 have all received their last dose of HPV vaccination to prevent cervical cancer. It doesn’t seem they were all looking forward to it… but big smiles afterwards.

We also arrange for all our girls above the age of 14 years to receive tetanus vaccinations. The Ugandan Government has recognised that women in Uganda are more likely to get tetanus than men and, by vaccinating the girls, we are also giving some initial protection to any of their children when they may become pregnant in a few years time.

We are keen to help girls in as many ways as possible, so we provide additional services to them on top of everything given to the whole school. For instance, we help our adolescent girls with sanitary products; and the nurse and her health team do a lot of counselling with the girls to work on their self-esteem and personal hygiene issues.
