Some of the first children to begin their schooling with Child of Hope about 15 years ago are now moving on to universities or undertaking other further educational training courses. They were invited back to school to talk with pupils in the top primary class.
It can be difficult for children of this age to look years into the future and appreciate the importance of studying hard. These earliest students shared their own life stories to help motivate their younger peers to pursue their own dreams.
Unemployment in Mbale runs at over 60% and education is the way out of poverty. Among the returners were Moses, about to begin medical school; Paul, who is starting law school; Daidai training as a teacher; Margaret, training in social work; and Alice and Esther following courses in Early Child Development. It has taken hard work, determination, and self-discipline for them to achieve their goals.
