A young girl aged around 8 or 9 years turned up at the school last week out of the blue. She’s not one of our pupils, but a resident of Namatala. She and her younger sister had been living with their father, but he had gone back to his village to do some garden work, and left the kids on their own. After about a month, the food and supplies he had left for the girls ran out, and so the girl headed to Child of Hope for help.

It's interesting how a slum child in trouble knew that her best chance of help was going to Child of Hope – our reputation is spreading in the wider community and we're seen as a valued community member.

Anyway, our Family Support team has subsequently visited the two girls at home and provided a few urgent supplies. They continue to monitor the situation and are trying to get hold of the father. Identity hidden on photo for privacy purposes.
