S1 (first-year secondary) students studying vegetable growing in an agriculture lesson. The students learn how to manage their nursery beds, including planting, watering and protecting the seedlings from birds using old mosquito nets.
Vegetables grown include peas, aubergines and green peppers. This practical lesson is essential for the students, as many people in Uganda grow their vegetables.
The groups are all at different stages — some are preparing the soil, others are watering, and some have seedlings growing. Teacher Michael demonstrates various skills, including how to water effectively with water collected from the borehole.
The students thoroughly enjoy these practical lessons and the chance to learn important life skills. If you are interested in sponsoring one of our students, please click here for more details.
