Our teachers are having to teach almost two years’ worth of curriculum in just a year, now schools are open following the 22-month Covid lockdown.

When the children returned to school in January, the Ugandan Ministry of Education declared an automatic promotion of children to the next classes, even though they had only worked on the previous year’s curriculum for two months.

Our teachers in the nursery and primary sections have been working tirelessly to help the children catch up. Recent assessments have identified the slower learners who are now being given extra time to make up lost ground. In Primary 7, the final year of primary education, this is even including Saturday classes to allow for additional lessons.
