Alice's life is transformed
A business start-up grant from Child of Hope has worked wonders for 33 year-old Alice and her seven children – by helping her start her own charcoal-selling business. Now Alice is able to cater for her family by paying rent and buying food and other basic needs.
She said: “Before this, life was so hard and my family was struggling to survive in the slum. I could buy things on credit and sometimes fail to pay them before. Often my children would sleep without eating that day.’’
Alice is very grateful to Child of Hope for the grant she received and says it has changed her life. On top of that, one of her children is being sponsored for primary education which is really helping.
Alice is very committed to her work. Although she has faced many challenges, she always perseveres and is very faithful in making savings every week. Spurred on and challenged by her example, her husband also started up a small business and he has also been making some savings. Together, the two of them are now building their own house.
