Just before the end of term in the UK, Year 7 students from Chantry Secondary School logged on for a video call with our students at Gill Sherlock Memorial Secondary in Namabasa – and what followed was less "school link" and more full-blown cultural exchange.
Our GS students taught their new friends a local dance, while pupils on both sides asked each other questions about school, family and everyday life. It's exactly the kind of exchange this partnership is built for: two schools learning from one another, sharing a little of their world along the way.
Chantry's support goes well beyond the screen. Their fundraising has already helped bring sports equipment, games equipment and tablets to GS students – a link that's made a real difference in the classroom, not just on a call.
By the end of the afternoon, questions had been answered, cultures shared, and at least a few dance moves picked up (still needing a bit of practice, by all accounts!).
